(Trinidad Guardian) A fish vendor and a businessman were murdered during separate incidents on Wednesday night. Their deaths have taken the murder toll to 130.
Sheldon Hassanali, 40, of Couva, and businessman Evrol Dublin, 57, also known as Fives, of Point Fortin were killed at their homes.
Hassanali’s brother is a police officer.
Police said around 8.20 pm Hassanali and his wife were at their Caroni Ltd Road, Old Southern Main Road, Mc Bean Village, home when he heard dogs barking.
As he stepped outside the back door to investigate why the dogs were barking, his wife heard loud explosions and saw her husband slump to the ground. He was shot in the chest.
His wife called Hassanali’s brother and the police responded. A district medical officer viewed the body and ordered its removal for an autopsy to be done at the Forensic Science Centre.
Police have ruled out robbery since nothing was taken.
Meanwhile, police believe that Dublin, 57, of Tanner Street, was murdered during a robbery at his home on Wednesday night.
Residents heard loud explosions around 9 pm, but it was not until yesterday morning his body was found by a relative who came to visit him.
He had a wound to his head. Police said the house was ransacked and a safe containing cash and other valuables were missing.
Police said Dublin owned Market Suites Guest House which is located at the front of his home.
However, the guest house was closed for renovations. He also worked as a senior refinery operation with Petrotrin before its closure.
