Businessman robbed of $1.2M in Parika Junction hold-up

A businessman was yesterday  robbed of over $1 million in cash by two men while waiting for transportation at Parika Junction, East Bank Essequibo.

The police reported that the 44-year-old businessman along with his son and a workman, at about 1.30 hours travelled from Leguan after conducting business.

The report said the victim alleged that he was at the Parika Junction awaiting transportation when the two accused approached him and subsequently placed “something to his side’ while informing him to hand over “everything you got.”

During the robbery the suspects took the victim’s cellphone, valued at $40,000, and his haversack containing $1,277,000 in cash and escaped.

The report stated that the suspects were pursued to the Parika fisheries road but were not apprehended.

The matter was reported and a description of the suspects given. Investigations are ongoing.
