A 19-year-old is now hospitalised with head injuries after he was caught stealing a car at Cherry Field, La Bonne Intention, East Coast Demerara.
The incident occurred in the wee hours of Monday while the owner of the car, Annand Gaj, was home. His car, PKK 543, said to be a blue Toyota Carina, was parked at his residence.
The police said Gaj at about 12.30 am heard the sound of his car’s engine. He subsequently raised an alarm and neighbours came to his aid by giving chase behind the suspected car thief.
He was subsequently found stuck in a trench with the car.
The police report disclosed that after the suspect was handed over he was seen with injuries to his head. He is presently hospitalised in a stable condition under police guard.
The value of the car was given as $1,180, 000.
