A 53-year-old Brazilian national, owner of the Regent Guest House, has died.

Beto Coutinho was found hanging in one of the apartments at his Regent Street business just after 2 pm yesterday after being unreachable for the entire day.

According to one of his employees, Coutinho, who appeared in good spirits when she last saw him on Monday afternoon, was supposed to open the Guest House at 6:30 am but he didn’t.

“I does reach to work at 6:30 in the morning and he wakes up and let me in and this morning he didn’t. I was calling, calling and there was no answer. Eventually we give up and leave 8:30 but kept calling all day and no answers,” Carol Cheong shared.

She added that there was no indication that her boss had any issues and that their last conversation was cordial.

“We spoke with him [on Monday] and it was all cordial. There was no indication of a problem and in the past he would discuss his problems with staff. He was a happy, friendly man,”  Cheong added while explaining that Coutinho has no relatives in Guyana.
