A West Coast Berbice woman was discovered dead in her house around 7.30 am yesterday with multiple chop injuries about her body and her son has since been arrested.

Dead is 64-year-old Teshwattie Jaglall, also known as ‘Babo’, of Lot 4 Number 3 Village, West Coast Berbice.

According to information gathered, the suspect, Deonarine Dookhoo, also known as ‘Dinesh’, 41, a security guard, and his two children – ages six and two – resided with the woman in her house.

A police source yesterday told Stabroek News it is believed that the killer used a cutlass to beat and chop the woman in the hallway.

Initially, the suspect had reported to the police that some men had broken into the house and attacked the woman but investigators quickly became suspicious as his story had several inconsistencies. After further investigations, investigators immediately placed the man into police custody.

A neighbour, Taramattie Sookraj mentioned that the suspect visited their home yesterday morning and asked “if we hear anything so when I tell he no he say three persons go in and kill the lady and me ask he if he call the police and then we go over.”

She recalled seeing the woman in a pool of blood in the hallway “lying in she night gown.”

Sookraj said the suspect initially claimed to them that he was not at home at the time of the attack.

Meanwhile, according to the police source, Jaglall was discovered with injuries to various parts of her body. Further, investigators discovered the suspected murder weapon on a table at the back of the house. The source noted that no bloodstain was observed on the cutlass.

After the discovery yesterday morning, the woman’s body was taken to the Fort Welling-ton Hospital where she was officially pronounced dead. The body was later transported to Bailey’s Funeral Parlour to await an autopsy.

Stabroek News has been informed that the Childcare & Protection Agency of the Minis-try of Human Services & Social Security has since taken the two children into their care as the investigation continues.
