A desperate act by a Coalition that has outlived its purpose

Dear Editor,

The ever popular slogan of the Grenada Revolution now appears in the reverse with the tabling of the Opposition Motion of No Confidence against two Ministers of the PPP/C Administration. Many wonder why? Ashton Chase account of the events of 1953 in his book, ‘133 days Towards Freedom’ highlights the PPP plans for social change at the time. But the struggle for change does not take place in a vacuum. Dr. Jagan was the first to expose the CIA intervention in deposing the legitimate, democratically elected Government of Dr. Mohammed Mossadegh. One year later in 1954 it was the Jacobo Arbenz Government of Guate-mala. In Iran the Mossadegh Government had nationalized Iranian oil while the Guatemalan Government nationalized the foreign owned ‘United Fruit Company’ of Guatemala.  Many continue to die as Guatemalans continue to flee poverty and repression in search for a better life for themselves and their families. The PPP Administration suffered the same fate because of its progressive outlook, program and plans for social change.

Many years later times have changed. The declassified documents of the CIA and the M-I-5 of the British Secret Services have revealed how national Governments have been deposed by foreign imperial interests. We live in one and the same world which is now more and more interconnected yet remains deeply divided. The present Opposition, it seems, is bent on creating mischief with its ‘No Confidence Motions’ tabled against two key Ministers of the PPP/C. The recent revelation by Dr. David Hinds of the WPA in demanding an apology from the Coalition Government from failing to deliver on its promises. Is this an act of desperation by a Coalition that has outlived its purpose?

Sincerely,
