Body of biker who jumped from harbour bridge washes up

The body found at the Pegasus Hotel foreshore yesterday has been identified as Vellone Thorne, the motorcyclist who was seen jumping from the western side of the Demerara Harbour Bridge on Sunday.

The body of Thorne, 35, of Lot 36 Sussex Street, Charlestown, was found in a partially decomposed state around 6.30 am.

According to a police report, a motorist witnessed Thorne jumping into the Demerara River from the Demerara Harbour Bridge between 7.20 am and 7.35 am on Sunday.

An alarm was raised and ranks of the Providence Police Station went to the section of the harbour bridge where they found Thorne’s CG motorcycle,  CH 4923 parked on the northern side facing the west with its engine still on.

Checks were made on the pontoons under the bridge but no one was seen.

Following Thorne’s body washing ashore yesterday, it was taken to the Lyken Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem examination.
