No bail for ganja trafficking accused held in bust

Romel Ramsingh, who police say was caught with just over 8 pounds of ganja, was yesterday remanded to prison on a charge of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.

Ramsingh appeared before Magistrate Alisha George at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court, where he pleaded not guilty to the charge and was remanded to prison until his next hearing on August 31.

The cannabis allegedly found in Romel Singh’s possession

On Saturday, police say, an intelligence-led operation resulted in the discovery of a quantity of suspected cannabis carried by the suspect. Upon seeing the ranks, the police say, Ramsingh attempted to discard the suspected cannabis into a parked van.

However, he was apprehended and told of the offence before being arrested and taken to the Beterverwagting Police Station, where the cannabis was weighed in his presence, amounting to 3,730 grammes (equivalent to 8.2 pounds)
