Two teens remain critical following the accident at Diamond, East Bank Demerara (EBD) on Sunday that left two dead.

Those in a critical condition are Michael James, 16, of Lot 29 Koker Dam, Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara and Johnny Persaud, 17, of Lot 108 Old Road, Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara.

At James’ residence, Trevor Persaud, a cousin of the injured teen, told Stabroek News that James sustained injuries to his head and neck, among other parts of his body.

He said the family learned of the accident via social media sometime after 10 pm on Sunday.

Trevor noted that James, who accompanied his friends on a trip to the seawalls, is not a social person but decided to take the drive on Sunday. He is said to be a mechanic by trade.

Meanwhile, Chandroutie Persaud, an aunt of Johnny Persaud, stated that he suffered head injuries and bruising of his chest during the accident. He is yet to regain consciousness.

The family disclosed that Johnny had a CT scan done yesterday and is expected to undergo surgery.

He remains a patient in the Intensive Care Unit of the Georgetown Hospital.

Chandroutie, who is also the aunt of Anthony Persaud, one of the two who died in the accident, described him as a friendly person who worked as a mason and recently opened his own chicken business. Like James he was said to be not much of a social person.

The family is trying to cope with the loss of the deceased and is hoping for the best for their hospitalized relative.

Meanwhile, post-mortem examinations conducted on the bodies of the two deceased, Anthony Persaud and Shonica Edwards, found that they died of multiple injuries.

At the hospital yesterday morning, the mother of Edwards said she and her family were awakened from their beds at their Land of Canaan home to calls that the young mother of one had been killed in an accident at Diamond.

“I don’t know how she end up in town because she left to go to swim at Banzie pool. I ask she where she going every week to swim suh and leh she stay home with her baby. She say it was the last time,” her sobbing mother related of the conversation with the last of her eight children.
