A Castello Housing Scheme businesswoman was yesterday remanded to prison on a charge of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Arcina Boele, 44, of Lot 35 Castello Housing Scheme, West La Penitence, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in a Georgetown court, where the charges were read to her.

She was refused bail and remanded to prison until August 11, 2021 when the proceedings will continue.

The firearm found

On Friday last, Boela and a shopkeeper were both arrested after police reported that they found them with a gun and two live rounds at the Castello Housing Scheme residence, which is said to be a business place and dwelling house.

Ranks attached to the Guyana Police Force (GPF) conducted a search between 6.30 am and 8.25 am and law enforcers reported that the businesswoman was found with a .32 Taurus revolver bearing serial number QL42412 and two live .32 rounds in the gun.

The businesswoman and the shopkeeper were told of the offence committed, cautioned, arrested and escorted to Police Headquarters, Eve Leary.
