Ramdhani siblings win GBA `A’ division tournaments

Competitive badminton made a return to the Guyana Badminton Association (GBA) calender over the weekend with the staging of a national division tournament at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Homestretch Avenue.

The last tournament was held in December, 2019.

Subsequently, tournaments were shelved owing to the Coronavirus pandemic and while the pandemic is still ongoing, the round-robin tournament was held under strict Covid-19 protocols.

In the `A’division, Narayan Ramdhani emerged champion after beating Akili Haynes 21-10, 21-11 in the final.

Ramdhai reached the final by beating Avinash Odit in the semi-final 21-6, 21-8 while Haynes secured his spot in the final with a 23-21, 13-21, 18-21 win over Jonathan Mangra.

Over in the ladies `A’division final, Priyanna Ramdhani conquered Christina Kumar 21-2, 21-6 to solidify her position as the top female player.

In the men’s `B’ division final, Easa Sanichara lost to Shavin Greene, 21-12, 17-21, 15-21.

Sanichara reached the final by virtue of a walk over against Chet Bowling while Greene got past Shawn Lui, 21-19. 17-21, 19-21. In the ladies’ `B’ division category, Kumar was victorious while Anna Maria Perreira finished as the runner up along with Emily Ramdhani and Ayanna Wickham-Watson who were  third and fourth respectively.

In the men’s `C’division, Jonathan Debidin won against Matthew Klautky in the final while Jonathan Robinson and Aiden Bhagwandin lost in the semis.

In the final category, the ladies’ `C’division, Priyanka Shivnauth defeated Mishka Beharry in the final. Eva Bowling and Kristen Bhagwandin were eliminated in the semi-finals.
