Bilingual education programme for Wapichan children to be expanded

The South Rupununi District Council (SRDC) held its first interim executive meeting on July 24 to plan for upcoming activities and was updated on bilingual education for Wapichan children among other areas.

A post on its Facebook page said that discussions were based on: land extensions applications; protection of the headwaters in the South Rupununi, capacity building for village councils, COVID-19, farms affected by flooding, social issues, women and youth empowerment.

Silverius Perry, coordinator of the Quality Bilingual Education Programme for Wapichan Children, also updated the SRDC on plans for the expansion of the programme to all schools of the South Rupununi. The leaders committed to supporting the plan for the expansion of the programme, the post said.
