South Turkeyen Sports Committee reschedules three-a-side small-goal football competitions

Following the rescheduling of the tournament owing to inclement weather, the South Turkeyen Sports Committee announced yesterday that the staging of the two Champion of Champions three-a-side small-goal football competitions will now be hosted today and tomorrow respectively.

According to a release from the committee, the Vryheid’s Lust Tarmac will serve as the venue for today’s activities, which will start from 2:00pm. The event will feature several teams from various villages from Georgetown and the East Coast of Demerara.

Amongst the expected participants inclusive of the hosts are Kingston, Alberttown, Lodge, Meadowbrook, Better Hope, D’Urban Street, Sophia, Ogle, Tiger Bay, and Plaisance. Meanwhile, the release also confirmed that the Buxton Community Center will stage tomorrow’s edition. Teams such as Haslington, Plaisance, Beterverwagting, Golden Grove, Enmore, Ann’s Grove, Paradise, Bare Root, Vryheid’s Lust, and Melanie, are scheduled to compete. An entrance fee of $1,000 per player is required to enter either of the tournaments. Winners will receive trophies and medals as well cash prizes.

Sponsors of the event are: the National Sports Commission, Trophy Stall, Antarctic Maintenance & Repairs, Star Party Rentals, Alfred Mentore, R&C Imports Distributors, R&D Engineering Services Inc, and Sleep Inn Hotel. The organiser of the competition is Johnny ‘Overseas’ Barnwell.
