The trial of Matthew Munroe, the taxi driver accused of murdering 23-year-old teacher Kescia Branche back in 2017, is set to commence in two weeks at the High Court in Georgetown.

A jury was empanelled on Wednesday before Justice Sandil Kissoon, who will be presiding over the trial.

The indictment against Munroe, to which he has pleaded not guilty upon arraignment, is that he murdered Branche on November 7, 2017 at Georgetown.

More than a dozen state witnesses are expected to testify.

Munroe is being represented by defence attorneys Dexter Todd and Anastasia Sanford.

The state’s case, meanwhile, is being led by Prosecutor Seeta Bishundial.

Branche, a mother of one and a teacher at Richard Ishmael Secondary School, was found unconscious on November 5 along Cemetery Road, obliquely opposite the cemetery office, in Georgetown.

She succumbed to her injuries two days later in the Intensive Care Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital.
