Prison Officer charged with possession of prohibited items

(Trinidad Guardian) – Prison Officer Stariel Charles was arrested and charged after he was found to be in possession of prohibited items at his place of employment. He is expected to appear virtually before the Port of Spain Magistrate court today. The following is a press release from the TTPS:

A Prisons Officer has been arrested and charged after he was found to be in possession of prohibited items at his place of employment. STARIEL CHARLES faces charges for possession of cannabis and possession of prohibited articles. He is expected to appear virtually before the Port of Spain Magistrate court today.

On August 11th 2021, Charles was arrested by officers attached to the Port of Spain Criminal Investigations Department (CID), in accordance with the Miscellaneous Provisions (law enforcement officers) Act No.25 of 2019, after being reportedly found in possession of the prohibited items. A search of the accused’s home on August 12th 2021 allegedly revealed further prohibited items such as wrapping paper and what is commonly referred to as ‘hemp cigarettes’. Assistance from Customs and Excise was sought relative to the items found. Enquiries are continuing.
