CARICOM ready to assist after Haiti quake

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has assured Haiti that it stands ready to assist in wake of the major earthquake that struck Haiti on Saturday.

In a statement, CARICOM Secretariat said Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Gaston Browne, who is CARICOM Chairman, had held discussions with Haiti’s Prime Minister Ariel Henry and assured him of the regional body’s help.

“Prime Minister Browne extended his sympathy to Prime Minister Henry and to the people of Haiti on the loss of life, and expressed his wishes for a full and speedy recovery of the injured,” the statement added.

The Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) is in contact with Haiti’s Civil Protection Agency, which is assessing the damage.
