Linden youth remanded on break and enter charge

A youth was on Wednesday denied bail after a court heard that he broke into a man’s home and stole a laptop and a gas cylinder.

Derron Austin, 23, appeared via Zoom from the Linden Police Station before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, where he was charged with break and enter and larceny.

It is alleged that at Wismar, Linden, Austin broke into and entered the dwelling house of Leroy Fraser and stole a Lenovo laptop, valued at $100,000, and a 20-pound cooking gas bottle. He pleaded not guilty to the charge. According to the Police Prosecutor, the items were recovered at Austin’s residence.

She said that Fraser has since collected the articles.

The prosecutor objected to bail and told the court that in 2018, Austin was sentenced to a suspended sentence of three months for a similar offence. As a result, Austin was remanded to prison until September 1.
