It seems Windies are focused on creating their own legacies

Dear Editor,

Please may I borrow space to offer my thoughts on the state of WI cricket. Your very good editorial points out the difficulties and frustrating inconsistencies of the WI team but it has always seemed to me that the biggest problem lies paradoxically in the success. For 15 years the WI team were unbeatable and, to me, that extraordinary run has haunted both the team and fans ever since. It doesn’t help that WI players from that era are still around carrying the emotional baggage of their success. Of course they are very entitled to offer opinions but I feel the current team just want to be left alone to make their own mistakes and, hopefully, their own successes. Every time a batsman fails, he must feel the weight of history bearing down on him. The current team do not need to be reminded of past glories. They need to be focused on creating their own legacy.

Sincerely,

Peter Hays
