Wednesday record day for vaccinations – Anthony

Minister of Health Dr Frank Anthony says that Wednesday was a record day for vaccinations in the country with over 5,000 persons receiving their shot.

The minister made this disclosure during his COVID-19 update on Thursday where he stated that the authorities have been doing well as it relates to inoculations over the last few days. “I think we’re really doing well over the last couple of days so yesterday [Wednesday] we have had record numbers of vaccinations.”

He noted that on that day some 5,240 persons in total were inoculated and added that it was a record high and hoped that the trend continues. Giving a breakdown, the minister explained that 951 of the 5,240 were children while 1,694 accounted for adult first doses, with 2,595 making up the second doses administered.

Meanwhile, Anthony stated that as the adolescent vaccination campaign continues, the ministries of Health and Education saw a huge turnout at inoculation drive that was held on Wednesday with over 900 children receiving shots.

“I think the collaboration was a good one which allowed us to really being able to provide more vaccination for the people… yesterday at that school alone we did about 920 something vaccines,” he said, adding that this would have been one of the highest vaccination rates by schools so far.

The minister mentioned that the two ministries will continue working in the different regions so as to build capacity and further inoculate children within the 12 to 18 age category across the country.
