Berbice-born Bobby Rama is one of many Guyanese who, having donned an entrepreneurial cap in the United States has made pleasing progress in the information technology sales sector.

A recent search for a computer servicing store in the Bronx by a Stabroek Business contact turned up Kings Electronics at 4374 White Plains Road where Bobby and his wife Tasha, own and operate the establishment.

An amiable and good-humoured man, Bobby was only too happy, despite his constant flow of customers, to speak with us about the products and services which he offers, including laptops, tablets, cellular phones, and the requisite accessories. Kings Electronics also operates a servicing and repair service.

Upon entering the store the Stabroek Business ‘contact’ immediately recognised Bobby as a Guyanese. “He just had that Guyanese look,” our contact said.

Bobby has been living in the United States for “quite some time” and says that he has not returned to Guyana “in years,” though he anticipates doing so “sometime in the future.”

A dyed-in-the-wool businessman, Bobby told the Stabroek Business that he has been operating Kings Electronics for the past nine years and has plans to expand his operations into adjoining premises which he has recently acquired.

While the Guyanese-born businessman is only too well aware of the challenges associated with the advent of COVID-19, he told the Stabroek Business that Kings Electronics has at least been able to contribute to sustaining the teaching/learning process by both marketing and servicing/repairing laptops and tablets.

His business, he says, thrives on “good customer relations,” one of his prouder achievements being the fact of a customer retention record that has allowed him to keep customers over the entire duration of Kings Electronics’ existence.

Bobby says that he is immensely proud of the fact that his customers include persons from distant communities in the United States including Connecticut and Philadelphia.” I believe that they return due to good service and customer relations. Operating a business in the United States of America means that one has to deal with a great deal of competition. Good customer service is therefore important,” he adds.
