Man on trial at Suddie over rape

Francis Gonzalves is currently facing trial at the Sexual Offences Court at Suddie, Essequibo, for raping a woman.

A jury was empaneled on Wednesday morning to hear the case against Gonzalves which alleges that on March 27th, 2018 he sexually penetrated a woman without her consent.

He has pleaded not guilty to the sex charge.

His in-camera trial commenced before Justice Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at Essequibo.

The State’s case is being presented by Prosecutor Tiffini Lyken. Meanwhile; Gonzalves is being represented by defence attorney Ravindra Mohabir. 

Also empaneled on Wednesday morning at Suddie was an indictment against Troy Tulasaram who is also accused of raping a woman.

The charge against Tulasaram to which he pleaded not guilty, is that he sexually penetrated a woman without her consent.

His trial is set to commence on Tuesday October 12th.

He is being represented by defence attorney Jerome Khan; while Lyken will prosecute for the State.
