Bids opened for consultancy to supervise works for Region Nine hydropower plants

Several bids have been submitted to review the design and supervise construction and rehabilitation works for small hydropower plants in Kumu and Moco Moco, in Region Nine.

Tenders for the projects, which will be executed under the Guyana Energy Agency (GEA) utilising funding from the Islamic Development Bank, were on Friday opened at the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB).

Bids were received from Site Construction Inc. USA & Guyana Port Inc. (US$12,876,100 for Lot 1, and $15,331,900 for lot 2); B&J Civil Works ($949,290,000 for Lot 2); Vidullanka PLC, of Sri Lanka (US$10,995,000 (Lots 1&2); Demerara Contractors & Engineers Ltd (US$12,421,000 for Lot 1, and US$5,995,000 for Lot 2); and Shandong Highspeed Dejian Group Company Ltd (US$13,366,450 for Lot 1 and US$6,131,126 for Lot 2).

The GEA had explained that the services being sought include the Design Review and Construction Supervision for a new 1.5MW Kumu hydropower plant and the rehabilitation and upgrade of the defunct Moco Moco hydropower to 0.7MW capacity. It said the consultancy services would be carried out over a period of 33 months from March 2022 to December 2024.
