Joint Services ranks yesterday morning uncovered a quantity of prohibited items, including improvised weapons and a quantity of narcotics, during a search at the Timehri Prison.
In a statement, the Guyana Police Force said the exercise was conducted in the three dormitories of the prison between 6 am and 8.30 am.
Among the items found were 11 improvised weapons, 1 kitchen knife, 1 pair of scissors, 3 cellular phones, 5 phone batteries, 2 phone casings, 1 SIM card, 4 phone chargers, a quantity of nails, 1 mirror, 2 electrical points, 9 cigarette lighters, and 2 earpieces.
The police said an investigation is ongoing to ascertain the circumstances under which the items entered into the prison.
