A Freeman Street, East La Penitence man was yesterday remanded to prison on a charge that he used a gun to rob two former co-workers of a cellphone and a gold chain.

Dimenche Dover, of Lot 59 Freeman Street, East La Penitence, appeared virtually before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan via the Brickdam Police Station Hub and he faced two armed robbery charges.

It was alleged that on October 23, at Freeman Street, East La Penitence, while in the company of another, he robbed Yogeshwar Bissoonchand of a gold chain, valued $120,000, and robbed Ryan Balkarran of a cellphone, valued $45,000. He was remanded to prison until December 8 after he denied the charges.

According to the Police Prosecutor, the man and the two virtual complainants are former workmates. She said that the three men worked together at Freeman Street. The court heard that the men were at the worksite when Dover, who was armed with a gun and another man, who was armed with a cutlass, approached them.

The two robbers demanded that the men hand over their belongings. The men obliged and the two articles mentioned were handed over. The men then left and Balkarran and Bissoonchand made a report to the police. Dover was arrested on the same day and he was positively identified by the virtual complainants to the police, the prosecutor said. She added that the stolen articles were not recovered.
