Farley set to be reelected GCF president

Incumbent Frankie Farley is set to be relected president of the Guyana Chess Federation (GCF) at the body’s annual general meeting today.

Farley, vice president Annand Raghunauth vice president and  company secretary Marcia Lee will be the three main persons on the executive.

Four other persons, Loris Nathoo, Yolander Persaud, Davion Mars and Irshad Mohammed are all expected to be appointed to key positions with Nathoo tipped to be the Chief Financial Officer replacing the post of treasurer which was previously held by Davion Mars.

Three other persons, Gomathinayagan Subramanian, Taffin Khan and Nellisha Johnson  are also expected to be  appointed directors following the AGM.

The new board will subsequently appoint the following persons as heads of committees.

John Lee – development, Nathoo- fund raising, Irshad Mohammed -tournaments, Sabine Macintosh- differently-abled, Raghunauth – Chess in Schools (CiS) and Youth,  Petal Dodson- Events, Jessica Callender –Public Ralations Officer and Marcia Lee- women and girls.

According to the GCF, no other slate was received at the deadline for nominations.

“In accordance with the notice published in the newspapers of the Annual General Meeting to be held Monday November 1, 2021, the acceptance of nominations of candidates for the management slate of directors has expired as of 18.00 hours, October 24, 2021.

“The Guyana Chess Federation will now proceed to hold its annual general meeting on Monday November 1, 2021 at 1800 hours,” a release from the federation stated.

At today’s meeting, which will be held via Zoom, the reports of the president and company secretary along with the  financial report will be high on the agenda.

Following the election of the team and executive management committee, there will be amendments to the constitution and the adoption of the 2021-2026 Development Plan.

The Returning Office for today’s meeting will be John Lee.
