Cornwall, Reifer star on final day

Half centuries from Rahkeem Cornwall and Raymon Reifer were the highpoints of the final day of the Best versus Best three-day match yesterday.

The drawn encounter at Coolidge Cricket Club ground, Antigua, saw  Team Blackwood trailing by 113 runs after going in on 213 for eight when play resumed yesterday..

Team Blackwood batted 18.3 more overs in the day to see their first innings finishing on 268 after 95.3 overs. Team Brathwaite’s second innings was brisk as they made 46 for four before declaring. Team Blackwood then closed the day on 57 for one to draw the match.

The Bajan all-rounder, Reifer converted his overnight score of 40 to 62 not out from 175 balls, laced with three fours and two sixes.

He added 50 for the ninth wicket with  Cornwall who had retired on 27 on the previous day. The burly Cornwall returned to hit nine fours and a six on his way to 54 from 81 balls before falling to Alzarri Joseph.

Joseph ended as the principal wicket taker with 4-48 while left-arm spinner, Jomel Warrican took 3-48.

Team Brathwaite in their second innings with a 58-run lead, spent less than 90 minutes, racing to 46 for four before declaring and giving Team Blackwood a target of 105 for victory in just about an hour left in the day.

Jeremy Solozano (12) and Joshua Da Silva (11) who was promoted to an opener were the only two batsmen to reach double figures. Cornwall and Shannon Gabriel each ended with two wickets each.

With the day winding down, Shayne Moseley and Kaveem Hodge resisted with useful time at the crease.

Moseley ended unbeaten on 29 from 49 balls while hitting four boundaries and on the other end of the 57-run stand, Hodge struck two fours during his 26-run knock before being dismissed by Imran Khan (1-27).
