Miner charged with DJ’s murder

A Parfaite Harmonie miner was yesterday charged with the murder of Andre Collison, the disc jockey who was fatally stabbed at Puruni Landing, Region Seven.

Kurt Simeron, 26, a miner of Lot 1968 Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara was remanded by Magistrate Crystal Lambert when he appeared at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court. He was not required to plead to the  charge alleging that he murdered  Collison known as ‘DJ Chappy’, 38, of Bartica. He was remanded until December 3.

The stabbing took place around 01.30 hrs at Puruni Landing, Middle Mazaruni. According to a police statement, Collison went to Two Blessed Sisters Restaurant, where he placed an order. As Collison was waiting on the food, Simeron went into the restaurant and an argument ensued between him and Collison over some money Collision reportedly owed him. The argument escalated and Collison was fatally stabbed.

“The argument became heated and the suspect drew a knife from his pants waist and stabbed the victim to his abdomen,” the police said. Simeron reportedly fled the scene. Collison was picked up by public-spirited citizens and taken to the Puruni Health Post where he succumbed while receiving medical attention.
