Designer Shan Seecharran is making only high-end designs now, having taken up real estate following the impact of the pandemic. His last collection debuted in August at the Dazzle Fashion Show at Movietowne in August.

That untitled, ready-to-wear collection, the designer said, is perfect for Guyanese who like standing out in a crowd. Though high-end, Shan said, the pieces are affordable. “I wanted to create a [collection] that Guyanese can afford but at the same time, keep it classy, trendy, unique and high quality,” said Shan.

Though ready-to-wear, the pieces can still be altered in design or size upon order according to customers’ preferences.

Having not made or showcased a collection in two years as a result of the pandemic, the designer said he was ecstatic and grateful to have been allowed the opportunity to do so. The collection which included 18 pieces took approximately three months to complete.

Through the fashion show, the designer said, he was able to gain some business, much of which was lost owing to the pandemic, leading him to pursue a seven-month course in real estate. Shan was among the first batch to graduate from a programme provided by Fabulous Homes International Group of Companies run by CEO and founder Dr Karis Munroe.

Early this month the designer decided to turn his new skills into a job. However, he explained that while he intends to do real estate full time, he does not plan to stop designing but will instead only make top designer styles.

“When the pandemic hit, I was without work for more than a year which is why I decided I needed to put my eggs in different baskets. I made the sacrifice of time and money to do the course. It wasn’t easy but I made it through. Already I’m loving real estate. However, recently my designing business picked up and now I’m booked out for the rest of the year,” he said.
