A 28-year-old man was electrocuted on Sunday afternoon while assisting a pensioner who was involved in an accident along the Zeelugt Public Road, East Bank Essequibo (EBE).

Police said that Seeram Jainarine also known as ‘Akash’, 28 years of Lot 300 Tuschen North, EBE died around 6 pm on Sunday after the crane which he was operating came into contact with a Guyana Power and Light (GPL) electrical wire.

According to a police report, 70-year-old Orlando Braithwaite, a resident of Sophia was involved in an accident along the public road.

Braithwaite, the police said, called Jainarine, who operates a canter truck with a Hiab crane to remove his crashed vehicle from the scene when tragedy struck.

The report explained that Braithwaite’s motor pickup, GMM 6541 was proceeding in the eastern direction along the northern carriageway of Public Road when he suffered a blowout.

As a result, the police said Braithwaite ended up in a trench on the southern side of the said road.

The police added that Braithwaite then contacted Jainarine who arrived at the scene in his canter truck, GYY 7142 with an assistant.

As Jainarine was standing at the right side of the canter operating the crane, the police report explained that the crane came into contact with a GPL wire causing it to spark.

Jainarine was knocked to the ground, the police said.  He was transported to the Leonora Cottage Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
