A Canefield man is now dead after he crashed into a parked lorry along the Gangaram Public Road, East Canje, Berbice, around 2.30 am on Saturday.

Patrick David, 40, of Canefield Settlement, East Canje Berbice, was driving a car, PSS 820, with occupants Hemraj Sheodarsom, 36, of Lot 121 West Canefield Settlement, East Canje, who was sitting behind the driver, Dellon Giddings, 36, of Rose Hall, East Canje, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, and Javid Sherif, 17, of Second Street Overwinning, East Bank Berbice, when they reportedly crashed into the parked truck, GPP 3824.

Sheodarsom reportedly told police that after they were drinking at Homme’s Bar, David took the car keys away from him since he (Sheodarsom) was intoxicated and decided to drive. However, he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the front of the truck.

As a result of the crash, the car ended up in a trench and the driver and occupants received injuries about their bodies.

They were all unconscious when they were removed from the vehicle by public-spirited citizens and rushed to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where David was pronounced dead on arrival.

Sherif was treated and then transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital in an unconscious state and he has since been admitted in a serious condition.

Sheodarsom and Giddings have been admitted as patients at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital for observation. Their conditions are regarded as stable.
