Guyana’s Covid-19 recovery rate over 95% – Anthony

Minister of Health, Dr. Frank Anthony, on Tuesday stated that Guyana’s recovery rate from the novel coronavirus is 95%, or 37,366 of the total number of 39,151 persons who tested positive for the virus.

Dr. Anthony, during his daily COVID-19 update, stated that these 39,151 cases were recorded after some 418,178 antigen and PCR COVID-19 tests were done.

“So, of these tests, we were able to deduce that 39,151 persons would have tested positive, of the 39,000 positives we have had 37,366 persons who have recovered so that’s 95.4% of those who have tested positive,” he said.

Dr. Anthony added that the 1,050 COVID-19 deaths recorded since the initial outbreak accounted for approximately 2.6% of persons who had tested positive. During the update, the minister stated that of Monday last, a total of 410,181 adults, or 80% of the adult population, had received their first vaccine dose, and 293,601 or 57.2% persons are considered fully inoculated after receiving their second dose. As it relates to the 12 to 17 years age group, 30,214 persons received a first dose, and 21,527 persons received a second dose. Further, a total of 10,708 persons have received the COVID-19 booster shots.
