Three held over Puruni jewellery robbery

A Brazilian national was on Sunday robbed of a quantity of gold jewellery and cash along the Puruni trail in Region Seven and the police have since arrested three suspects, who they said confessed to the crime.

The robbery occurred around 4 pm during which Deusimar Oliveira called ‘Formiyao’ was relieved of a quantity of gold jewellery, $70,000 cash and a cellular phone.

In a press release, the police said investigations revealed that Oliveira was riding along the Puruni Trail on his ATV with the items in his possession when he was ambushed by three suspects, one of whom was armed with a handgun.

The men, the police said held Oliveira at gunpoint and demanded that he hand over the valuables. He complied and the suspects fled on foot.

The following day, the police acting on information went to the Puruni Trail where they stopped a motor car with two of the suspects.

Some of the stolen items including the gold jewellery and $40,000 were found in their possession, the police added.

According to the police, the suspects were questioned during which they admitted to committing the robbery and provided the police with information that led to the arrest of the third suspect.

The suspects, ages 22, 23, 31 are currently being questioned in relation to other armed robberies.
