Dear Editor,
It was pure political grandstanding for the speaker from the ruling side of the hallowed chamber to chastise the opposing side, during the opening of the Budget debates, on its inability to find a replacement Leader of the Opposition. The resignation of the previous holder of the position was swift and sudden.
A replacement has been identified but for the machinations, is unable to take up the position. I don’t think that comment should have been allowed to pass without comment from the Speaker. Presentations must be respectful and responsible and not bordering on the distasteful.
