Cops destroy $115.8M in cannabis in Berbice River

The Guyana Police Force yesterday reported that a party of ranks on Friday destroyed a total of $115 million worth of marijuana discovered in the Berbice River.

According to a statement from the force, on Friday an intelligence-led operation was carried out by ranks from the Police Headquarters and from Regional Division #10, at Zion, Berbice River. “The operation led to the discovery of three (3) fields of marijuana (Cannabis Sativa) sitting on about 40 acres of land consisting of about 55,000 cannabis plants ranging from 1 foot to 10 feet in height, about 60 pounds of dried cannabis, six (6) nurseries and five (5) camps,” the statement noted.

The estimated street value for the suspected cannabis plants and dried cannabis discovered was given as $115,800,000.

The cannabis plants and camps were destroyed by way of fire, the police reported. No arrests were made.
