A Chinese national is now on remand after being charged with possession of  8.8 kilogrammes of liquefied cocaine to be shipped from Guyana to China via a courier company.

Xiu Feng Wang was taken yesterday before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the George-town Magistrate’s Court.  He denied that on February 11, at DHL Express, Lot 50 Fifth Street, Alberttown, Georgetown, he trafficked 8.8 kilogrammes of cocaine.

According to a release from the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU), the man was arrested on Wednesday last. CANU agents went to the courier company where the man allegedly had a quantity of cocaine hidden in multiple small packages within a large box that contained juice boxes and biscuit packages. The package was being posted to China, CANU said.

The man was taken to court on Friday when he was supposed to be charged along with two others, taxi drivers Bernard Persaud and Godfrey Neblette. However, his co-accused were charged and remanded but he was held in custody while the police awaited the aid of an interpreter.
