A man was yesterday remanded after a City Court heard that he allegedly beat up his ex-girlfriend.

Fabian Crawford, 29, of Laing Avenue, Georgetown, was taken before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

It is alleged that between February 18 and 19, at Laing Avenue, Georgetown, he unlawfully and maliciously assaulted a woman with intent to maim, disfigure or disable her. He was not required to plead to the charge and was remanded until March 9.

According to the police prosecutor’s facts, the man and the virtual complainant were involved in an intimate relationship which recently ended. The court heard that the man was reportedly abusive to the woman. On the dates mentioned, the pair met for the woman to collect some money as he had to compensate her for a broken phone.

However, during the meeting at the man’s home, he requested that they have sex. The woman refused and Crawford allegedly became upset. He then took a piece of wood and a hockey stick which he hit her with several times about her body causing the woman to sustain multiple injuries to her head, body and hand.

She later reported the matter to the police and Crawford was arrested and later charged with the offence.
