Pregnant woman arrested for slashing rival’s face at Church’s

A pregnant woman was taken into police custody after she allegedly used a sharp object to slash the face of another woman while at a Church’s Chicken outlet in Rose Hall Town, Corentyne on Thursday.

According to information gathered, the victim, Devi Persaud, 23, of Lot 195 Clifton Settlement, Corentyne, was at the Church’s Chicken branch waiting on an order when she was attacked just around 4.55 pm.

The pregnant suspect’s husband had left her and taken up residence with Persaud, likely prompting the attack.

On the day in question, the suspect, who is four months’ pregnant, spotted the victim at the fast-food location and reportedly approached her from behind and slashed her face with a sharp object after which she quickly exited the establishment and made good her escape.

Stabroek News was told that a cashier at the location then assisted the victim, who began to bleed due to the injury sustained. She was eventually taken to the Port Mourant Hospital, where she was treated for her injury.

The suspect was later arrested and denied the allegation as she claimed she only pointed her fingers in the victim’s face.

A police source yesterday told this publication that the suspect is expected to be placed before a court on Monday.
