Firearm, ammo found at BV – police

The Guyana Police Force yesterday reported the discovery of a firearm and ammunition at Beterverwagting (BV) on the East Coast of Demerara.

The police said in a statement that about 10 am yesterday, a Lance Corporal and a party of policemen from the East Coast Division (4C) were on mobile patrol in Force vehicle, PWW 5466, assisted by two ranks on motor cycle patrol (CL 473 and CK 8020).

The ranks were responding to a report of stolen bicycles in the Beterverwagting Village on the East Coast of Demerara.

During the operation, a 22-year-old unemployed male of Paul’s Lane, BV was seen riding a bicycle that was positively identified by the victim as a stolen one.

The man was arrested along with the stolen bicycle and escorted to the Beterverwagting Police Station.

At the time of his arrest he was carrying a brown shoulder bag. On arrival at the station, the police said that he threw the bag away in the Police compound and same was recovered by a rank in his presence and a .38 revolver containing 6 live rounds of ammunition in chamber and 6 live rounds in the bag were found.

He was asked if he had a licence to carry the firearm and he said ‘no’. He was told of the offence, cautioned and he remained silent.

The said firearm was examined and no serial number was found. The firearm and ammunition were photographed, sealed and lodged. The 22-year-old suspect was placed into custody pending charges.
