The lifeless body of a 57-year-old Bel Air resident was last Thursday found behind the Marriott Hotel, Kingston and an autopsy has confirmed that she drowned.

Dead is Jennifer Sweatnam, an Information Technology (IT) Manager attached to the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, who resided at Barima Avenue, Bel Air.

Police yesterday confirmed that Sweatnam was last seen around 16.30hrs at her workplace. Her body was found the following day on the beach behind Marriott Hotel, Kingston.

According to the police, relatives related that Sweatnam suffered from depression. Prior to her death, the woman lived alone. Her brother passed away about a year ago.

At the time of the discovery, there were no visible marks of violence about Sweatnam’s body.

Her cause of death was revealed following a post-mortem examination which was conducted by Government Pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh.

John Pereira, a cousin of the dead woman told reporters that he last heard from her about a week ago. He said he tried contacting her via telephone on Sunday and Monday but got no response.

As a result, he said he journeyed to her workplace in search of her. It was then, he learnt about the incident.  “I went to where she used to work and they told me that apparently, she was missing and her body at the mortuary,” Pereira said.

Pereira further related that he immediately contacted another family member who positively identified Sweatnam body.

According to Pereira, Sweatnam traveled to and from work in a taxi. “Normally she does take transportation, taxi to and from work. She don’t take bus or anything so I don’t know how she end up behind Marriott hotel,” he related.
