Too many fast food franchises in Guyana

Dear Editor,

The new establishment of Chuck E. Cheese, an American global family entertainment center and pizza restaurant, is expected to launch in Guyana soon. I couldn’t be more disappointed as Guyana is focusing on fast food franchises too long and they are unhealthy for children and adults. Like the USA, we have become a society of obesity as Guyana’s fast food restaurants have grown rapidly over the past years.

Fast food is considered unhealthy because it is typically loaded with calories, sodium, and unhealthy fat—often enough in one meal for an entire day. It also tends to be low in nutrients and almost totally lacking in fruit, vegetables, and fiber. Instead of opening this fast food restaurant, we should try other business sectors which can be useful for our Guyanese – in the technological sector or in the educational sector to build/improve our country.

However, the establishment of Keto Living Guyana will be a life-saver for many in the future. Blowing up like a balloon wouldn’t be an embarrassing issue since this restaurant might be the only provider in Guyana for keto meals for the public. Keto meals can help us lose that extra weight and improve our health. Keto is a term for a low-carb diet.

Sincerely,

Stacy Da Costa
