Cops attacked by domestic violence suspect, accomplice at Crane

Police officers responding to a domestic violence report were allegedly attacked and injured by two persons at Crane Housing Scheme, West Coast Demerara (WCD) on Friday night.

The attack occurred around 21.40hrs.

Their assailant and his accomplice were arrested and taken to the Parfaite Harmonie Police Station, where they are being held pending charges.

According to a police statement issued yesterday, ranks on Friday night responded to a domestic violence report made by a 26-year-old woman, who alleged that her 24-year-old partner assaulted her.

Upon arriving at the home, the police said the suspect and another man attacked the ranks with a piece of wood, resulting in police constables Bowen and Haymer received injuries.

The police added that several persons then gathered around and started to behave in an “aggressive” manner, while chanting for the ranks to leave the suspects alone.

“Constable Haymer then discharged a round in the air to disperse the crowd, which allowed the ranks to arrest both suspects,” the statement added.

Both ranks were taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where they were treated.
