Elvis Fitzgerald Thuesday, the Albouystown man who was nabbed at the Eugene F. Correia International Airport with around 40 pounds of cannabis in his luggage last Saturday, has been sentenced to four years in jail after pleading guilty to trafficking narcotics.

Thuesday, who was busted by the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU), pleaded guilty when he appeared before Magistrate Rochelle Liverpool at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court and he was subsequently sentenced.

However, no fine was instituted since there was no signed copy of the certificate of value and no officer was available at the time to sign the said certificate at the Narcotics Branch.

CANU had previously reported that the narcotics, confirmed to be poppy weed weighing a total of 18.370 kilogrammes (40 pounds), carried a street value of over $7 million.

At the time of his arrest Thuesday was attempting to board a flight to Barbados.
