Following his recent arrest, a Baramita youth was on Monday charged with the month-old murder of a Venezuelan national.

According to the Guyana Police Force, Keron Williams, 22, called Virgil Henry, of Return, Baramita, North West District, was harged on Monday with the murder of Rafael Antonio Soto, which occurred at Baramita, between Thursday February 10 and Friday February 11, 2022.

Williams, who appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann Mc Lennan at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court 1, was not required to plead. He was remanded to prison and the matter was adjourned until April 4, 2022, for statements.

Williams was arrested on March 8, 2022, at Big Creek Backdam, North West District, the police said.

He had reportedly gone into hiding after the killing of the 43-year-old Venezuelan national.

A police release had said their investigations revealed that the suspect and the victim, who were not known to each other, were at a shop at Return, Baramita, consuming alcohol about 16:00 hours on February 10, after which they both left but met up on the Return, Baramita Road, where the victim convinced a female to accompany him instead of the suspect. When she did, the suspect allegedly became annoyed and a heated argument ensued, the police said. The suspect then pulled out a knife from his waistband and dealt the victim a stab to his chest and escaped.
