Two dead after Corentyne hit and run

Two persons were killed in a hit and run along the Number 70 Village, Corentyne Public Road on Friday.

Dead is Tony Lakeram, 20, a carpenter of Number 71 Village, Corentyne, and a woman, who is said to be known to the young man. However, police are currently working to ascertain her identity.

Based on the police’s investigation thus far, a vehicle was speeding along the western drive lane of the road before colliding with the couple. The driver then fled the scene.

The couple, who were hurled to different parts of the main access road, sustained injuries about their bodies and were later picked up by public-spirited citizens and taken to the Skeldon Public Hospital, where they were both pronounced dead on arrival.

Meanwhile, several videos posted on social media last evening by residents claimed that the Lakeram was conscious while at the scene of the accident. Several residents in the video could be heard saying “this man moving bai, them people this na dead” while they awaited transportation to take the duo to the hospital.

Lakeram’s aunt, Monica Narine, 47, explained that she received the message just around 10 pm and rushed out to the location. However, her nephew and his female companion had already been transported to the hospital.
