Business executive Ramesh Dookhoo is the nominee of the private sector for the Natural Resource Fund (NRF) board.
This was confirmed today to Stabroek News by the Chairman of the Private Sector Commission, Paul Cheong.
Dookhoo’s name will now be submitted to President Irfaan Ali for appointment.
Parliament has nominated former PNC MP and bauxite executive, Dunstan Barrow for appointment.
On his own, President Ali can name and appoint another three members of the board.
The NRF legislation has been heavily criticised for ensconcing wide powers in the President and the Finance Minister. Critics have said this would lead to domination of the NRF board by persons close to the governing party.
