Sport fishers rescued after boat sinks off Liliendaal

Six men on a fishing trip just off of the Liliendaal foreshore, East Coast Demerara were rescued by the Coast Guard and officers of the Maritime Administration Department (MARAD) after their boat sank.

Stabroek News understands that the men were casually fishing when their boat got entangled with fishing seines in the area. A source told this newspaper that the incident occurred just around 5pm last Thursday.

The source explained that the fiberglass boat began taking in water while the men were attempting to free it from the seines. As a result the boat sunk.

The six men, including the owner Jameel Ali were rescued a short while after. They were all wearing life jackets at the time of the incident.
