Seeking to fill a gap in the corporate arena, the Gizmos Group of Companies is embarking on a new venture to provide office solutions to businesses wanting to set up here. The new venture will see the company offering turnkey office options for short and long-term periods.

Facilities Manager at Gizmos Building, Stacy Peters, yesterday explained that having recognised the need for office space in central Georgetown, the company made a decision to convert unused spaces in the building into offices.

The building at Wellington and North Road, Georgetown – once the main location of Gizmos and Gadgets – is being retrofitted into a corporate space.

According to Peters, their projections have indicated that many persons will be seeking office spaces to operate from once established here, to provide services to the oil & gas sector.

“We decided to offer up the space we have here because we are in a prime location – central Georgetown. We want to offer all the amenities of an office under one roof. For a Guyanese it is difficult to do business, much less for a foreigner, so we wanted to offer something that is ready to use. So that they can get off at the airport and come straight to the office and start working,” she explained.

The offices, she said, will be set up in an upscale professional environment with modern amenities such as a kitchen area, rooftop recreational space, lobby and waiting area.

“We want to eliminate the hassle of a company having to go about getting an office setup. It is a hassle to have to find a contractor, then get GPL to come and install the meter, then you have to wait on the internet service to be installed… that can be taxing so in our package we have everything ready at very competitive rates.”

In addition to providing utilities and smart office furnishings, janitorial services are also part of the package.

Peters went on to explain that office spaces can be custom designed to suit the needs of the client and it will be their decision on whether they want it furnished or not.

“We have that flexibility for a company to come and say they want 200 square feet or a 100 square feet. If they want it furnished with our furniture or if they just want a raw space. We are able to make that happen.”

Once a down payment is made, office spaces can be ready within two to three weeks. However, she was quick to point out that if a client requires a space to work immediately, such a request can be accommodated while their permanent space is being fixed.

In addition, she indicated that they will also be offering  boardroom space for rental for meetings and conferences.

Rentals, she pointed out, can be done per day or monthly on a short term basis or in years on a longer term.

“We are doing this project in phases because we are financing it ourselves. The whole idea is to modernise the building to meet the needs of our clients. By the end of the year we would like to have everything in place for our clients,” she indicated.

The Facilities Manager disclosed they were forced to finance the business themselves after their proposal was rejected by a local bank.

To date they have already received commitments from four businesses to take up space in the city-central three- story building.
