The Mayor and City Council (M&CC) plans to take action against persons who are sub-letting stalls in the various markets around George-town.

At the M&CC’s statutory meeting, held on Monday at the Kitty Market, Mayor Ubraj Narine noted that there have been multiple complaints about the practice as he noted that vendors are transferring their stalls to others and are getting paid in return. He noted that in some instances vendors are trying to retrieve their stalls but cannot.

APNU Councillor Heston Bostwick, who heads the council’s Markets Committee, demanded that stallholders provide proof of ownership of the stalls that they are currently occupying, and said if they fail to do so they may be sanctioned.

The Mayor has since scheduled a meeting with vendors and the Market Committee, set for April 12, 2022.
