Two persons including an 18-year-old girl were remanded to prison on Monday after they were charged with the murder of taxi driver, Insaf Zakir, who was  stabbed and robbed by robbers who posed as customers more than a month ago.

They were charged jointly with the murder of Zakir which occurred on February 21st.

The duo was not required to plead to the indictable charge. They were remanded to prison until April 25th.

Fortune and Anderson were arrested by the police last Thursday.

Zakir called ‘Gadafy,’ of Tuschen Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo (EBE), succumbed at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) on February 22nd.

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) had reported that Zakir was attacked around 23.10 hrs on February 21st at Crane Housing Scheme, West Coast Demerara (WCD).

He was stabbed several times in his chest and robbed of his cellular phone, worth $48,000, by three suspects, including a woman who was carrying a baby.

He was taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital and was later transferred to the GPH.

According to the police, Zakir had told investigators that he was at the Tuschen car park when he was approached by a woman, who was holding a baby, and two men.

They requested to be taken to Best Village, WCD.

As the suspects were in the vicinity of Crane Housing Scheme, the police said one of the men, who was seated behind Zakir, grabbed him by his neck and demanded that he hand over his valuables.

However, Zakir resisted and the man pulled out a knife and stabbed him several times to his chest.

The other male suspect then relieved Zakir of his Samsung Galaxy A20 cellular phone before he and his accomplices fled on foot.
