Corentyne family hospitalised after stung by bees

A Number 67 Village, Corentyne woman and her four children were injured on Sunday after they were attacked and stung by a swarm of bees which were in a nearby lot.

Sunita Charran, 30, a housewife of Number 67 Village, Corentyne along with her children Kevin Charran, 2, Ravina Charran, 1, Geewan Sookdeo, 8, and Shaneeza Charran, 5, were rushed to the Skeldon Public Hospital on Sunday around 8 am.

According to information gathered, the family was at home when the bees attacked them. Residents rushed over and assisted as best as they could. A horse that was tied in the area was also stung.

Stabroek News was told that initially the family was treated and sent away from the hospital. However, after Commander of Region 6, Superintendent Boodnarine Persaud and his ranks visited the family at their home later that day they were then taken back to the hospital where they were eventually admitted.

The Guyana Livestock Development Authority (GLDA) was informed and assisted with removing the bees from the location, this newspaper was told. As of yesterday, GLDA was also offering assistance to the horse which was stung.
